Construction of the new Westman Islands ferry is on schedule, RÚV reports. The ferry, which is being built in Poland, is expected to be handed over to the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration on 22 September.
The ship’s hull is complete and most of the equipment is already on board, including a battery: the new ferry runs entirely on electricity. The new ship will be a welcome replacement to the old one, whose age has been causing breakdowns regularly.
