Spokesman of the Consumer Coalition in Iceland, Gísli Tryggvason, sent a letter to Minister of Trade, Jón Sigurdsson, in which he expresses his concern of the planned merge of dairies in Iceland.
Tryggvason urges Sigurdsson to prevent a monopoly in the milk industry by prohibiting the merge. Tryggvason believes that, the merge will seriously offend consumers’ interests. The letter was published on ns.is yesterday, the Consumer Coalition website.
RÚV reported on Monday that three Icelandic dairies, MS, KS and Nordurmjólk planned a coalition and that their plans would be announced later this week. Such a merge is legal because of an exception from the Icelandic competition laws.
