Father and Two Sons Missing in South Iceland

A rescue party from the Search and Rescue Units (ICE-SAR) in South Iceland and Reykjavík were called out last night to look for three men, a father and his two sons; they were hiking in Klukkuskard north of Lake Laugarvatn.

They are presumed to have left for the hike on Saturday and family members began to enquire about their whereabouts when they failed to return on Saturday night, mbl.is reports.

Their vehicle was found beneath Klukkutindur peak and the search party from ICE-SAR looked for them along nearby hiking paths; search dogs and a helicopter from the Icelandic Coast Guard (ICG) assisted in the search.

The police department in Selfoss believes they might have left for the hike yesterday morning but as the information was unconfirmed, ICE-SAR and ICG worked from the initial departure assumption.

The Selfoss police department told mbl.is the three men were found just before 8 pm last night; they had planned to hike in Klukkuskard but got lost along the way. They were found in northern Hrútadal valley below Hrútatindur peak, approximately 3 kilometers from their vehicle.
