One of the vehicles is believed to have been driven on the wrong side of the road, but there is a single lane in each direction where the accident occurred. The person who died was a passenger in one of the cars. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
Long lines formed on Reykjanesbraut, the road that connects the capital area with Keflavík International Airport, while the road was closed. The departure of three flights from the airport was delayed due to the accident, since several crew members were stuck in traffic.
