Jógvan Hansen from the Faroe Islands won the talent competition X-Factor by over 70 percent of votes in Reykjavík on Friday. Two other foreigners made it to the finals, a Swedish and an American candidate.
Hansen beat the other two finalists, the Icelandic sisters Rakel and Hildur Magnúsdóttir, who performed as the duet Hara. Fréttabladid reports.
Hansen and Hara each sang three songs, including a new Icelandic song which both candidates sang “Hvern einasta dag” (“Every day”), written especially for the show.
X-Factor, which is a similar competition to American Idol, was held in Iceland for the first time this winter. The final episode was broadcast live in the Faroe Islands, but only Icelanders could vote.
