Supporters of the Icelandic men’s national football team who want to fly to Paris for Sunday’s game against France may have to pay a high price for their flight ticket. This has infuriated a number of fans.
According to RÚV, the price of a roundtrip could be as high as ISK 194,000 (USD 1,550, EUR 1,400), assuming fans fly in on Saturday with a direct flight and return on Monday. In addition to that, they will have to pay for accommodation, the ticket to the game and for food.
Icelandair announced this morning that it has added two flights to its regular schedule, back and forth. Shortly before noon, one way tickets were available for between ISK 66,000 (USD 528, EUR 478)and ISK 103,000 (USD 824, EUR 746).
WOW Air offers direct flight to Paris. Around this weekend, one way tickets range from ISK 66,000 (USD 528, EUR 478) to 85,000 (USD 615, EUR 680), assuming a return on Monday.
Money can no doubt be saved by choosing an indirect flight, or by traveling before Friday.
There are even plans by Circle Air to offer a direct flight to Paris from Akureyri on Sunday, provided enough seats can be sold.
Those who do purchase a ticket may not be able to find a jersey in time for their flight. The Icelandic team jersey is reportedly sold out by most retailers. More have been ordered and a now shipment is expected on Friday. They will be distributed to retailers as quickly as possible.
