In a season of more storms than most can remember, tomorrow’s forecast (Saturday) is being touted as probably the worst so far this winter. Some outlets are even planning on staying shut and all domestic flights have been canceled, starting this afternoon.
The owners of Hamborgarafabrikkan, the popular hamburger joint on Borgartún, the same street as Iceland Review is located, have asked customers not to visit the restaurant tomorrow because of the extremely bad weather forecast, mbl.is reports.
Tomorrow, one of the worst storms this winter (and there have been many) will hit Iceland, starting tonight, with extreme wind, rain, and sleet expected.
There are already storm conditions in South and West Iceland, but this will increase to ‘extreme weather’ tonight, with very strong southerly winds and very significant rain or sleet across the whole country.
Search & rescue teams say road travel will be dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. Authorities are particularly enthusiastic to get their message out to tourists through car rental agencies and hotels: it will be too dangerous to take daytrips into the countryside or travel between towns tomorrow.
