Extensive Search for Missing Man

Icelandic Search and Rescue deployed over 50 people out to look for Ríkharður Pétursson on Friday, RÚV reports. Ríkharður has not been seen since Tuesday, when he left his home in Selfoss at around 4:00 PM.

The search for the missing man began on Thursday evening, and continued into the next morning. Search and Rescue teams used dogs, drones, cars, and ATVs to aid in their efforts, as well as a helicopter. According to a post on the local police’s Facebook page, the search was eventually called off on Friday evening with plans to resume looking for Ríkharður within the town of Selfoss itself on Saturday morning at 9:00AM.

Ríkharður is around 50 years old, and thin. He was last seen wearing black pants, a black parka, and a black knit cap with yellow writing (MAX) on it. Anyone who knows anything about his movements after 4:00PM on Tuesday is asked to be in touch with the police at 444-2000, 112, or by leaving a message on the Lögreglan á Suðurlandi Facebook page.
