Iceland’s Ministry of Justice, the Capital Region Police and the Center of Addiction Medicine (SÁÁ) announced plans this week for extensive cooperation for fighting alcohol and drug abuse.
SÁÁ will ensure that police can submit individuals dealing with serious alcohol and drug problems to its treatment facility Vogur at all times by reserving one bed space for the Capital Region Police every day of the year, mbl.is reports.
Vogur will accept individuals who have been sentenced to prison, who will not have to serve time in prison as long as they complete their treatment at Vogur and the following supervision period.
SÁÁ will also undertake preventive education in collaboration with police and inform police officers on alcohol and drug abuse.
