Ex-Education Minister Most Trusted Political Leader

Chair of the Left-Green Movement Katrín Jakobsdóttir, who served as minister of education and culture last term, holds the most trust among voters in Iceland. In a new MMR (Market Media and Research) survey, 63 percent of respondents said they had faith in her.

The trust rating in Katrín has increased significantly since MMR last surveyed the topic in February when it stood at 44 percent. Now Katrín enjoys even more trust among supporters of the Social Democratic Alliance than Árni Páll Árnason, the party’s chair, as pointed out on ruv.is.

According to the MMR survey, 93 percent of Social Democrat supporters have faith in Katrín but 77 percent in Árni Páll. Overall, 24 percent of respondents said they trusted Árni Páll.

President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson has a trust rating of 56 percent and Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson 49 percent.

Minister of Finance Bjarni Benediktsson, who chairs the Independence Party, is trusted by 33 percent of respondents, whereas the party’s vice-chair, Minister of the Interior Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir, has a rating of 52 percent.
