The fate of Iceland’s contribution to the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest will be decided tonight when Greta Salóme steps on stage during the competition’s first semi-final in Stockholm. She will be the 16th contestant out of 18 to step on stage when she performs the song ‘Hear Them Calling.’

Tonight’s 18 contestants compete for ten places in the Grand Final. The broadcast will be hosted by Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw. You can view the lineup here.
Greta Salóme appeared upbeat yesterday when she spoke with RÚV. The final competition will be aired live on RÚV, starting at 7 pm Saturday night. Betting websites appear cautiously optimistic about the Icelandic song’s success, RÚV reports. The website Oddschenker expects it to make it through the semi-finals, but predicts it will land in 16th place during the final competition Saturday night. Historically, 16th place is not unknown to us as a nation in this type of competition. For years, it appeared reserved.
Oddschecker expects Russia to win, Ukraine to come in second and France third.
