In July, European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki told Morgunblaðið that the Icelandic government was inflexible in solving the mackerel dispute and that this was delaying the opening of the fisheries chapter in the EU negotiations.
Summa however told mbl.is today that he believed that the two issues were unrelated and would not impact one another.
