EU Delegation to Iceland: No Link to Mackerel Dispute

The Head of the EU Delegation to Iceland Timo Summa says there is no link between the mackerel dispute and the negotiations on fisheries as part of Iceland’s European Union accession process.

In July, European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki told Morgunblaðið that the Icelandic government was inflexible in solving the mackerel dispute and that this was delaying the opening of the fisheries chapter in the EU negotiations.

Summa however told today that he believed that the two issues were unrelated and would not impact one another.
