Sindri Þór Stefánsson, who escaped from an Icelandic prison last month and fled abroad, will be sent back to Iceland on Friday. Sindri’s lawyer Þorgils Þorgilsson confirmed the announcement with RÚV. Sindri will likely attend court the same day to determine whether he will be returned to custody.
Sindri Þór escaped from a low-security prison in Southwest Iceland on 17 April and fled to Sweden by plane. He was being held on suspicion for his alleged part in a robbery of 600 computers which were specially fitted for Bitcoin mining. Sindri’s custody order had expired on 16 April, the day before he fled prison.
