Over 2,000 people are expected to gather in front of the Prime Minister’s Office across from Lækjartorg in downtown Reykjavík this afternoon when environmental organization Landvernd (the Icelandic Environmental Association) presents its comments on the new framework program to the Prime Minister and Minister for the Environment.

The gathering is in response to Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson’s comments in a recent interview that the 400 comments received by the parliament and ministries were by and large the result of social media and other forms of online media and that the majority of those could be classified as essentially one comment.
Managing director of Landvernd Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson said that the PM’s comments ignore the tremendous work that the public and environmental organizations have put into reviewing the framework. He told visir.is that Sigmundur Davíð had, in his opinion, clearly not studied the reviews carefully as there had been a total of 13 separate environmental organizations among those who had submitted comments.
At 2 pm this afternoon a total of 2,130 people had stated on Facebook that they would attend the event.
