Morgunbladid reports, that 20 British members of the environmental organization Saving Iceland held a protest in front of the Icelandic Embassy in London yesterday. The protesters held banners with slogans protesting the building of dams in Iceland. One of the banners had a picture of a deer being led to slaughter by an Alcoa worker.
In other news, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service reports that on March 1, Alcoa will make a decision regarding whether and where they will continue with ongoing preparations for building a new aluminum smelter in the north of Iceland. The project managers will meet in New York on March 1 and make a decision. Three venues are under review, Bakki by Húsavík, Dysnes in Eyjafjördur and Brimnes in Skagafjördur.
