Emergency Service Rescues Out of Control Trawler

By Iceland Review

A ship on behalf of ICE-SAR, the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue, caught up with the 100-ton trawler Valur ÍS yesterday afternoon, which had drifted out of control in Jökulfirdir in the West Fjords for hours. The crew of eight was unharmed.

A gear failure and a storm of 20 meters per second set the trawler adrift and the crew could not do anything except back into to the wind and try to prevent the ship from running aground, ruv.is reports.

The ICE-SAR team managed to attach the trawler to their ship and tow it back to the harbor in Ísafjördur. A boat from Ísafjördur and another from Bolungarvík also arrived at the scene to help.
