Elves and trolls in Akranes

Today Álfheiður Ólafsdóttir opens an art show in exhibition hall of Kirkjuhvoll in the town Akranes. The exhibition is called Líf framundan (Future Life).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />

This show is a sequel to Álfar og tröll (Elves and trolls), which was held in the town Selfoss earlier this summer. Ólafsdóttir continues this fantastical theme of elves, trolls, and hidden people, a very vibrant part of Icelandic culture.

Ólafsdóttir has been doing graphic design and painting for the last seventeen years. She graduated from the Art and crafts <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />school of Iceland in 1990. Since then she has held many private shows. In 2000 she released a children’s book titled, Grímur og Sækýrnar. Her oil paintings from that book are also on display at this show which will be open until August 26.
