Elderly Woman Dies from Burns

By Iceland Review

The elderly woman who suffered severe burns when her apartment in a retirement complex on Dalbraut in Reykjavík caught fire on Sunday, died from her injuries yesterday.

According to information from superintendent Sigurbjörn Vídir Eggertsson of the Capital Region Police, the source of the fire is being investigated, mbl.is reports. There have been speculations that the fire was started by a cigarette.

There are 46 apartments in the retirement home where the fire was reported. They were all cleared and about 50 people required assistance escaping the building. Nearly 20 inhabitants of the complex have not been able to return to their dwellings.

Apart from the woman who died seven others were taken to the hospital but five were released shortly afterwards.
