A fire started in a standalone house on Eikjuvogur in Reykjavík yesterday evening. The elderly couple who lived there managed to close the door to the room where the fire started to prevent it from spreading and get out of the house. They escaped unharmed.

Firefighters arrived to the scene quickly and got the fire under control. According to the duty officer, fire was raging in the room, causing significant damages, Morgunblaðið reports.
A total of ten firefighters participated in the action, which was completed around 9 pm. The origin of the fire is unknown.
