Thirty-six-year-old Icelandic professional football player Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen is said to have signed a contract with Bolton Wanderers, who currently competes in the Championship League, the second highest in England. The club is yet to confirm the news.
Eiður played with the team for two seasons, from 1998 to 2000, after which he joined Chelsea for six successful years.
Bolton have spent the highest number of seasons of any club in the top flight without winning the title (the 2011–12 season was their 73rd, non-consecutive year in the top flight), dv.is reports.
After leaving Chelsea, Eiður Smári played three years with Barcelona, winning the Spanish and Champions League. Since 2009, he has played with Monaco, Tottenham, Stoke, Fulham, AEK Athens, Cercle Brugge and Club Brugge.
During his previous time with the Bolton Wanderers, now almost 15 years ago, he scored 19 goals in 59 games.
