Eighty Kaupthing Bankers Face Charges

Around 80 employees of the now defunct Kaupthing Bank have been sued for buying shares in the bank. These people were served with the lawsuit about a month ago and since then the adjournment has been used to seek other solutions.

Ólafur Gardarsson, chairman of the Kaupthing winding-up committee, told Vidskiptabladid business weekly that most of these employees bought shares for relatively low amounts, under ISK 15 million (USD 127,000, EUR 96,000).

However, there are also examples of much higher amounts, he added. The aim is now to solve individual cases through debt settlement without court intervention.
