By Iceland Review

The 2018 Icelandic Edda Awards ceremony was held last night at the Hilton Hotel in Reykjavík. The television show Prisoners (ice. Fangar) went home with the most awards: 10 in total.

The Edda Awards are bestowed by The Icelandic Film and Television Academy (IKSA) and are the most prominent film and television award in Iceland.

Fangar’s awards included best script, editing, and cinematography. Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir wom best actress in a leading role, while composer Pétur Ben was awarded for his music in the series. In his speech, Pétur commemorated film composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who passed away recently, bringing the guests to their feet in a standing ovation for Jóhann.

The film Under the Tree (Undir trénu) won seven awards including best film, best director (Hafsteinn Gunnarsson), best actress (Edda Björgvinsdóttir), and best actor (Steindi Jr.).

This year’s nominees and winners can be seen on the Edda Awards website.
