ECRI: Iceland should put more effort into integration

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) said the Icelandic government does not put enough effort into the integration of immigrants in a recent report.

In the report Iceland is encouraged to tackle high drop-out rates of foreign-born pupils from secondary schools and offer non-Christian pupils information about other religions, as Morgunbladid reports.

ECRI also recommends the government considers an application it has received regarding the construction of a mosque and an Islamic cultural center in Iceland “without further delay.”

ECRI finds the quality of Icelandic lessons at school very important and suggests adult immigrants should be able to attend language courses for free.
