Long queues formed at Keflavík International Airport this morning, with lines extending outside the terminal for the second time in recent days. The longest waiting time was estimated at around 45 minutes.
According to Guðjón Helgason, communications officer for airport operator Isavia, the congestion is linked to the large number of visitors who travelled to Iceland around the solar eclipse on 12 August and are now returning home.

Busy Weekend For Keflavík
According to Helgason, the busy period will continue today and tomorrow as large number of visitors are heading back home. Isavia confirmed that the airport is fully staffed, and no stoppage has been reported.
As reported by the provider, the longer queues tend to form on particularly busy days rather than reflect typical waiting times. Helgason said 97% of passengers this summer had waited no more than 15 minutes.
Despite the large number of visitors, the airport is described as well-prepared for the heavy passenger traffic over the weekend.
