Eight Icelanders, among the 550 extras in the Clint Eastwood movie Flags of our Father, will have speaking roles reports Morgunbladid today.
Alexía Björg Jóhannesdóttir, casting director for the movie, said all of the 550 extras have received crew cuts and training has started, including water training. Alexía says the American team was surprised that all of the Icelanders could swim. Swimming is mandatory in grade school in Iceland and students do not graduate without first having to learn to swim.
Most of the international actors arrived in Iceland on charted flights Tuesday afternoon, but Clint Eastwood, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach and their families arrived by private jet Tuesday evening. The Icelandic media noted that many golf clubs were on the jet.
Eastwood plans to stay in Iceland for one month and is said to be satisfied with the conditions. Today’s cover of tabloid DV features a prominent picture of the Eastwood family with the headline “a private interview – wife of Clint Eastwood wants to learn Icelandic”.
