East Iceland Fish Freezing Plant to Become Hotel

A local artist in Borgarfjördur eystri in east Iceland is currently working on renovating an old fish freezing plant and turning it into a hotel and art gallery. The hotel will also serve as a workshop for artists.

“Originally the idea was to operate a seafood restaurant in the building, but then my son-in-law suggested we buy the entire building and established a hotel,” glasswork artist Ásta Sigfúsdóttir told Fréttabladid.

Her project was recently presented with a grant from the Borgarfjördur employment growth fund. The hotel will have eight rooms and the art gallery has already opened.
