East Iceland Film and Video Festival Launched

The fourth annual experimental film and video festival 700.IS Reindeerland formally opens tonight with an address by Áslaug Thorlacius, chair of the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SIM), at the Egilsstadir Slaughterhouse in east Iceland.

The festival primarily emphasizes video installations. Eight artists from five different countries, Iceland, Denmark, Germany, the UK and the US, will display their work in the Slaughterhouse for one week, Fréttabladid reports.

Tomorrow, a so-called “artist march” will be held in the Slaughterhouse between 12 noon and 1:30 pm, during which all participating artists will guide visitors through the exhibition and answer questions about their contributions.

Screenings of films from many different countries will also take place during the festival, both in Egilsstadir and other locations in the region, including Skriduklaustur, Seydisfjördur and Eidar.

The festival runs through March 28. Visit 700.is for further information.
