Earthquakes at Bárðarbunga

Two large earthquakes occurred at Bárðarbunga volcano on the night of May 20th, as reported by the Icelandic Met Office. Bárðarbunga is located underneath Vantajökull, Iceland’s largest glacier. The earthquakes happened in the northern part of the Bárðarbunga caldera. The first quake was detected at 8:33 pm and measured 3.8, while the second occurred two and a half minutes later, of magnitude 3.9. Around ten aftershocks followed, the largest reaching a magnitude of 3.2.
