Between 20 and 30 earthquake tremors have been recorded this morning off the Reykjanes peninsula, where the Keflavík airport is located in southwest Iceland. All tremors were less than 3 on the Richter scale. This spate of tremors comes in the wake of a substantial spate near Bárdarbunga, a volcano beneath the Vatnajökull glacier in eastern Iceland, in the last two days. The strongest tremor at that time was measured at 3.8 on the Richter scale. According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office this is not believed to signal a volcanic eruption. VÍSIR online reports.
