Earthquake of Magnitude 5.0 Shakes Bárðarbunga

An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 shook the northern rim of Bárðarbunga at 2 AM this morning. A total of 17 quakes have registered this morning, most in the northern part of the Bárðarbunga crater.

Because of snow and sleet in the area it is difficult to see any eruption activity at Holuhraun. Scientists report that last night when they left the area the eruption was in full swing.

The pollution from the eruption is expected to hit northern Iceland, from Blönduós to Húsavík. Because of winds it is not expected to be lie steady over any place, Iceland Met reports.
