DV Daily Presents the Icelandic Cultural Awards

Daily red-top DV presented eight Icelanders with the annual cultural awards during a special ceremony on Wednesday and additionally President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson presented author Thor Vilhjálmsson with a special honorary award.

This year’s trophy was designed by artist Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, who is based in New York, a medallion braided with artificial hair.

Awards were granted in different categories.

In literature, Audur Ólafsdóttir was given an award for her novel Afleggjarinn. PK Architects received an award for their building at Birkimörk 21-27 in Hveragerdi in the architecture category, while design studio Vinnustofa Atla Hilmarssonar was rewarded for design.

In film, the RIFF – Reykjavík International Film Festival received an award, and in theater director Baltasar Kormákur was awarded for his staging of Ivanov. In visual art, Elín Hansdóttir was given the cultural award and in music, the girl band Amiina was found worthy of recognition.

In the readers’ choice category, comedian Elfar Logi Hannesson was awarded for the “Act Alone” theater festival in Ísafjördur.
