Dutchman Arrested for Smuggling Drugs into Iceland

A Dutch citizen in his 40s was arrested at Keflavík International Airport yesterday with 1.2 kilograms of cocaine carefully hidden in his luggage. The man was arriving from Amsterdam and was stopped at a random check, which is part of regular inspection.

Police in Sudurnes demanded custody of the smuggler after his arrest and the Reykjanes District Court sentenced the Dutchman to four weeks in custody, Fréttabladid reports.

The street value of the confiscated cocaine could be nearly ISK 50 million (USD 756,000, EUR 516,000). The case is under investigation.

Apart from the Dutch citizen, six other individuals are currently in custody after being arrested at Keflavík International Airport for drug-smuggling.
