Dunkin’ Donuts Opens This Week

Few people in Iceland have missed the fact that American doughnut giant Dunkin’ Donuts is about to open its first branch in the country. The news has been controversial and received extremely mixed reactions.

Those exciting to get Dunkin’ will be pleased to know that it will open the day-after-tomorrow, on Wednesday.

“The preparation has gone very well. It has taken a long time. It is 18 months since we started the process with Dunkin’, but the last few weeks have been really exciting. We’ve had people in training overseas and then training staff here at home and now it is all really happening,” CEO of Dunkin’ Donuts Iceland, Árni Pétur Jónsson told Vísir.

The first branch will open on Laugavegur this Wednesday and the company plans to open 16 branches around the country. Árni says Dunkin’ Donuts is here to stay and he hopes Icelanders will enjoy the company’s products.

He says the company already has a lot of Facebook followers and that there are many people waiting patiently to come and try their first Dunkin’ Donut.

It is hoped that Dunkin’ Donuts will not only appeal to Icelanders, but also to the 150,000 American tourists who visit Iceland each year.

“It will be a mix up of Icelanders and tourists. Tourists have been very interested in finding out when we open,” Árni adds.
