The origin of the extensive fire in the building Drífandi in the Westman Islands on Tuesday night, causing extensive damages to Hotel Eyjar and the bookstore Eymundsson that were facilitated there, was a clothes dryer.

This was determined by the investigative department of the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police who sent investigators to the scene of the fire yesterday, visir.is reports.
The investigators ruled out the fire being started deliberately; several unsolved cases of suspected arson have come up in the Westman Islands in past years, the last earlier this month.
