Drugs Discovered aboard Polar Nanoq

A large quantity of drugs was discovered overnight aboard the trawler Polar Nanoq from Greenland, which is docked in Hafnarfjörður harbor. That information was confirmed by Inspector Einar Guðberg Jónsson from the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police, according to RÚV.

Three of the ship’s crew members are suspects in the disappearance of 20-year-old Birna Brjánsdóttir, who has been missing since Saturday morning.

RÚV reports that officers from the Directorate of Customs boarded the vessel overnight and discovered the drugs. A crew member was arrested and questioned in relation to the drugs. He is the fourth crew member of Polar Nanoq to be arrested, but it’s not known whether he is connected to the missing girl’s case.

Police would not reveal whether the fourth crew member is still being held by police.

Chief of Customs Snorri Olsen declined to comment on the case.
