Drug busts on the increase

A special street squad cooperating with the drug department of the capital region police has been successful in solving drug-related cases. The squad has already made 220 drug busts this year, more than the total number of busts last year.

According to Karl Steinar Valsson, a senior officer in the drug department, the squad has confiscated two-and-a-half kilos of hashish, amphetamine, cocaine and marijuana, nearly 400 cannabis plants, 100 doses of LSD and 100 ecstasy pills, Fréttabladid reports.

Valsson said most of the drug busts took place in April. “They were partly related to concerts and other events,” he said.

People are encouraged to call the drug department if they have any information related to illegal substances, (+354) 800-5005.
