Drones Begin Flying Food To Icelanders

In Reykjavík, food delivery has just entered a new era. Icelandic on-demand goods service AHA, and Israeli drone logistics company Flytrex have, together, set up a small drone delivery route in Reykjavík, which delivers food in a much more efficient manner than ever before.

Instead of having to drive food across different streets, wasting precious time and fossil fuel in the process, these drones simply fly a straight route without polluting the environment.

The catch is that, currently, the drones are only allowed to fly one single route over Elliðaárvogur. As can be seen in the video below though, the drone delivery is still much shorter than driving to the same destination.

According to Yariv Bash, CEO of Flytrex, this is only the beginning. Currently, there will be about twenty drone deliveries a day, with more routes to follow by the end of this year. This will be followed by drone deliveries straight to people’s doorsteps, although they won’t be landing, instead, the goods will be lowered to the ground using a wire.
