Don’t Miss Celestial Shows

Don’t miss a celestial performance to be given every morning November 5-9, according to mbl.is. Look to the east and you will see a unique sight: a waning moon and three planets, Venus, Jupiter and Mars, all appearing close to one another. Saturday’s performance promises to be the best when the moon will be only two degrees from Venus.

Sævar Helgi Bragason, head of the Astronomy Association of Seltjarnarnes, recommends looking to the east at 7:30 am on Saturday morning. What you will see is Jupiter above, Venus below and brighter. Beside Venus, you’ll see the waning moon and Mars right above.

On the website of the Icelandic Met Office, you can follow forecasts for the northern lights. They were unusually beautiful last night and are likely to reappear in coming nights. Clouds may block the view, but Friday looks promising, according to Meteorologist Helga Ívarsdóttir. The best conditions to see the northern lights will likely be in the north and east this weekend.
