Dog owner requests police investigation of its death

Kristjana Margrét Svansdóttir, the owner of Lúkas, a pure bread Chinese Crested, has requested a police investigation into its death. The dog was allegedly put into a sports bag and kicked around by a group of boys.

Lúkas, which lived with its owner in Akureyri, northeast Iceland, went missing after an operation in late May. Svansdóttir put up advertisements around Akureyri offering a reward and a group of people searched for Lúkas for weeks, Fréttabladid reports.

“During the Car Days, June 15 to 17, I heard about a group of boys that had located Lúkas. I didn’t know who they were but was very happy because I was sure they would return him to me,” Svansdóttir said.

But no one contacted Svansdóttir. Later she heard someone had witnessed the boys, who were in their late teens and early twenties, putting the dog into a sports bag and kicking it around until it stopped barking. The body of Lúkas has not been discovered.

“Now I just want to find Lúkas so I can bury him,” Svansdóttir said. She has demanded an investigation and and submitted evidence to the police. Candles were lighted in three places in Iceland last night to remember Lúkas.
