Disaster Narrowly Avoided in Reykjavík Police Chase

By Iceland Review

Police prevented a near disaster by forcing a vehicle off the road when it was heading into a residential area in the Reykjavík suburb of Grafarvogur at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour last night. The driver was attempting to escape.

The driver, who was in his twenties, did not respond to police demands and seemed to have no attention of doing so, driving into four police vehicles and one private vehicle before police managed to bring the car chase to an end, Morgunbladid reports.

All police vehicles in the capital region were on standby during the car chase. The driver and his passengers were arrested. They were both unharmed and no one was injured.

According to Fréttabladid, police said the man had jeopardized public safety with his behavior. They suspect that he was driving under the influence of drugs.
