Dettifoss Trail Run has Record Attendance

Over 200 people have already signed up for the Dettifoss Trail Run which will take place next Saturday. This is a new record.

“The awareness has been steadily increasing each year, and people are also signing up sooner than before,” Gudlaug Gísladóttir, the Run’s manager told

The weather forecast is not ideal but Gísladóttir points out that in former runs, a poor forecast did not make a difference, as each time, the weather turned out to be great.

The Dettifoss Trail Run ends at Ásbyrgi. Three running distances are available: 32,7 kilometers, from Dettifoss Waterfall; 21,2 kilometers, from Hólmatunga; and finally 13,6 kilometers, from Hljódaklettar.

According to Gísladóttir, the run is complicated to organize. Watering stations are five kilometers apart, and in some cases, volunteers carry water and energy drinks many kilometers. Then, the runners’ transportation must be carefully organized since the road along Jökulsárgljúfur is difficult.

However, it is all done with a smile. “What I love about this is that the locals here at Kelduhverfi volunteer every year, simply because of the joy that surrounds the event.”

The registration ends tonight at 10 pm.
