Denmark Beats Iceland in Football

The Icelandic male football (soccer) team was badly defeated by Denmark, 3-0, in Copenhagen’s Parken stadium yesterday. Iceland has not beaten Denmark in Parken since 1967.

Denmark attacked aggressively throughout the game and Iceland did not have many chances to score. Iceland had two opportunities towards the end of the game, but blew them both, Morgunbladid reports.

Iceland’s star footballer and former captain of the Icelandic team, Eidur Smári Gudjohnsen, who plays with Barcelona, recently decided to leave the national team due to “personal reasons.”

The game between Iceland and Denmark in 1967 has become legendary. Iceland beat Denmark 14-2 with Hermann Gunnarsson and Helgi Númason as the main goal scorers.
