Decrease in Scandinavian Tourists to Iceland

Visits from Danish, Swedish and Norwegian tourists to Iceland in June have decreased significantly between years while there has been a large increase in visitors from China, mbl.is reports.

In the first half of this year 517,000 foreign passengers arrived at Keflavík International Airport, or a 28.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2014. The number of tourists from the other Nordic countries increased by just 2.8 percent during the period while tourists from North America increased by 40 percent.

However, when June alone is considered there was a 16.7 percent decrease in tourists from Sweden, 13.6 percent decrease in Danish tourists and 10.2 percent decrease in Norwegian tourists. All in all there were 2,223 fewer Nordic visitors than in June 2014.

Meanwhile, Chinese tourists have increased by 78.2 percent between years. So far this year, 17,000 visitors from China have visited Iceland. When June alone is considered, there was a 83.5 percent increase in compared to June last year.
