Icelandic company DeCode Genetics has launched court proceedings against five of its former employees, alleging they stole vast amounts of highly secretive and valuable data from the company and handed over to a competitor that was established expressly to compete against DeCode. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, for which four of the employees now work, has released a statement claiming that the charges against its employees are completely unfounded. This is reported in all the main media.
One of the five charged, a Spanish national who worked for DeCode in Iceland for eight years, is still in Iceland and has been placed in a travel ban until Friday. By that time a decision will have been made as to whether he will be formally indicted by the State Attorney of Iceland. The employee maintains his innocence and plans to launch a libel suit against DeCode.
