Decision on Iceland Name Case Expected on Monday

A decision on the case of Blær Bjarkardóttir, the teenage girl registered as stúlka (‘girl’) in the National Registry who is suing the state to have her name approved, is expected on Monday, reports.

As reported earlier, Blær is not one of the 1,853 female names approved by the Icelandic Naming Committee and as such the girl has been identified as stúlka, literally ‘girl,’ on all official documents since birth.

The case has received extensive coverage from the world’s media in recent weeks.
