Experimental hip hop group Death Grips have released the first disc of an unannounced double album, sampling Björk.
The unannounced first disc, titled niggas on the moon, is part of a planned double album and was released this Sunday, via the group’s Facebook page. A second disc, jenny death, is to be released independently this fall prior to the publication of the full album, the powers that b, which is expected sometime late this year.
The album’s eight songs all sample the vocals of renowned Icelandic alternative musician Björk.
Björk has previously collaborated with the group: in 2012 Death Grips remixed two of her songs, Sacrifice and Thunderbolt, as part of the Biophilia Remix Series.
The band is no stranger to this unorthodox publishing method, as they were dropped by their record label Epic Records in 2012 for releasing their album NO LOVE DEEP WEB online, for free, without authorization.
Björk shared the link to the album’s Soundcloud page yesterday, with the following statement:
“i am proud to announce my vocals landed on the new death grips album ! i adore death grips and i am thrilled to be their “found object” ! i have been lucky enough to hang and exchange music loves w/ them and witness them grow !! epic : onwards !!”
