Dead poet in contact with movie director?

Movie director Valdimar Leifsson, who is currently finishing shooting a full-length television film about one of Iceland’s most treasured poets, Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807-1845), claimed yesterday that the long-deceased poet has been communicating with him.

“I believe Jónas is talking through me,” Leifsson told Fréttabladid. “So many strange things have happened during shooting and this has been a great adventure.”

Leifsson said Hallgrímsson has, among other things, contacted him in the middle of a shot calling for a change of scenes, and according to the director, the changes have always been for the better.

The film is a combination of acted scenes and interviews and Leifsson describes it as “a poem for Jónas in a cabaret style.”
