A dolphin was spotted swimming near the Reykjavík suburb of Grafarvogur last week, but on Saturday that same dolphin was found dead along the seashore. The body of the dolphin was later reclaimed by the tide.
Gísli A. Víkingsson, a biologist at the Iceland Marine Research Institute, told Fréttabladid it is uncommon that whales beach in the capital region, “but it happens every once in awhile.”
It is not clear whether the dolphin was still alive when it beached or whether it was already dead when it drifted ashore.
