The Icelandic goat will be celebrated on a special day dedicated to the breed tomorrow. A forum at the National Museum of Iceland will be held from 1 to 4 pm. The breed is native to Iceland and is at risk of extinction.

There are currently 800 Icelandic goats owned by 50 individuals in the country, most of which are on one or two farms, visir.is reports.
In 2011, Jóhanna Þorvaldsdóttir, the country’s most active goat farmers, established an association with the goal of making goat breeding a sustainable option and educating Icelanders about the qualities of the goat.
The Icelandic Goat Center opened by the goat farm Háafell in Hvítársíða, in the rural Borgarfjörður region in west Iceland earlier this year.
