Day of Icelandic Music Celebrated

Today is the Day of Icelandic Music, and as in previous years, the country’s radio stations will play three Icelandic songs simultaneously at 11:15 am and the entire nation is urged to sing along.

The three songs are:

Jólakötturinn’ (‘Christmas Cat’) by Ingibjörg Þorbergs

Spáðu í mig’ (‘Check Me Out’) by Megas

Á Sprengisandi’ (‘At Sprengisandur’) by Sigvaldi Kaldalóns with lyrics by Grímur Thomsen.

A ceremony will be held at Harpa concert hall from 11-12, visir.is reports.

The songs’ lyrics can be found here.

December 1 is also Iceland’s Sovereignty Day.
